Art in the Era of Science - Technology

Huayu Youth Award and its related exhibitions aim to continuously present the cutting-edge scene of contemporary art, demonstrate the multi-dimensional creation of young artists, and establish a platform for artistic creation and academic forum for the new generation. Launched by Zhao Yisong in 2013, it explored and nominated more than 100 young Chinese artists from all over the world. Through the media of painting, sculpture, video, installation and performance, these shortlisted young people convey their unique views on the world, history, technology, emotion and many other issues. The reunion will include a chance of encounte, a panel and an exhibition on the theme of Art in the Age of Science-Technology. We try to throw out and (may not be able to) answer a series of questions : In a time when science-technology has almost taken the dominant position, what does the creativity of art offer? In a time when we always calculate the rate of return, what are the motivations and impetus for creative production with unconditional input? In a time when we are desperate for progress and innovation, how do we gain sufficient strength for reflection and criticism? in a time when body is technologized, are human beings evolving or dissimilating ? Every generation was once young —— Oh, aged young people, has anything changed? Should we be optimistic or vigilant? How do artists confront such a turbulent era and society? At Explorer Space, we are proud to present a group exhibition under the same theme, where 12 artists shortlisted for Huayu Youth Award in recent years respond to the issues above. In a world we live symbiotically with technology, there is no exclusive option between fight or breakaway, agreement or compromise.
